How To Pick The Right Type of Carpet
February 19th, 2008 by DirectproThere are many choices in plush carpet available today, but it pays to pick the right kind for your home and lifestyle. Here are some quick tips that will help you get the most out of your purchase:
1. If cleaning and durability are your primary concerns, select heavy duty, low-pile carpets which don’t show wear and tear as fast and last longer.
2. If your room receives a great deal of sunlight during the day, avoid dark-colored carpet or wool carpeting which typically fades faster than neutral carpets.
3. Always invest in good padding. Superior padding provides extra support that can make a lower-priced carpet feel more comfortable and increases the life span of any carpet type.

I am not a big fan of carpet because it collects a lot of dirt. However, we don’t have the budget for wood or tile floors yet. Is there a style of carpet that doesn’t collect so much dirt?

Hi Sharon,
The experts at DirectBuy recommend a good nylon plush. It cleans easily, wears better, and retains its new appearance much longer than other types of carpet. If you are thinking about putting carpet in a high traffic area, vacuuming weekly will help with the collection of dirt. It’s also important to have your carpet professionally cleaned, but you’ll want to check with the manufacturer for specific cleaning instructions.

Hi…I am in the carpet trade in the UK and have enjoyed your tips. I’ve just started some tips of my own at my website and have an RSS feed to help people keep in touch as I add more. I have started off with natural plant floor coverings such as sisal, jute and coir. Hope people find them as useful as the ones here….
