What Size Should Your New Dining Room Table Be?

First of all, consider the size of your room so the size of your table will look appropriate and balanced, as well as providing an enjoyable dining experience for your guests.

Naturally, the larger the room, the larger your table should be and vice versa. A small table in a large dining room will look out of balance, and a table too large for a small space just makes things uncomfortable.

The standard recommendation is to make sure you have at least 48 inches between the edges of your table and the nearest wall or piece of furniture. If no traffic will pass behind the chairs on any side of the table, 36 inches should suffice.

Be sure you have at least 36 to 42 inches across your table to have enough room to comfortably place food in the center of the table and provide a comfortable distance for your guests to converse.
