Hi Stewart,

It depends on how the tiles are being used in the shower. The current style is to use different sized tiles in the shower. The walls, ceiling, base, and floor can all be different sizes.

If you’re talking about the floor tile in the shower, then we suggest you don’t go bigger than 2 x 2 tiles. Smaller tiles are best for shower floors because there’s more grout for traction.

Some experts believe that the larger 12 inch tiles on the walls and ceiling are not only easier and less expensive to install, but they actually make a small room look larger and more open. Plus with less lines and grout, it can create a cleaner look that is easier to maintain.

Your local DirectBuy showroom offers a huge selection of floor tiles of all sizes, plus interior designers and product specialists specially trained to help you find the right size and style for your home.

We are putting a large walk-in shower into our master bathroom. What size tile do you recommend we use?
